Doughie

For a while now, I’ve been admiring the awesome dough boy bowls on Kath‘s site. By admiring…I, of course, mean drooling over.

I’m all for feeling like I’m eating cake batter first thing in the AM! Breakfast of champions, obvvvv.

Actually this really is the breakfast of champions.

Kath‘s instructions are to assemble the ingredients, stir and leave them in the fridge overnight – then blend in the morning. I didn’t have that much foresight – sooo I just blended and let the finished product sit in my fridge for a little bit before shoving it in my face!

I was craving chocolate & coffee… sooo a mocha dough boy was born.

I combined in a blender:

  • 1/4 cup of rolled oats
  • 4 oz of non-fat plain Chobani
  • 1.5 tsp of chia seeds
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 TBSP Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa
  • 1 tsp of instant coffee
  • 1/2 tsp of honey (and then added more Truvia for extra sweetness [I like it sweet!] at the end – I might just do more honey, period, next time)
  • 2 oz skim milk (adjust amount of liquid for desired texture/thickness!)

Whiiiired away until it was all smooth – and then threw it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Then – more to make it pretty than for actual flavor – I added some hazelnuts and some raspberry jam. I really liked the jam though. Nom. However – this is certainly not as pretty as the masterpieces of granola and nut butter that Kath puts together!

My new fave morning staple. No cooking and no brain freeze from trying to suck down a fruit smoothie too quickly! :) Plus, this is super filling!!

Now to attempt a different variety of Kath’s Dough Boys – her Berry Cheesecake Dough Boy.

You had me at cheesecake.

Randomness

Sooo – true meals didn’t happen today. Booo. Promise something fun tomorrow though!

I did do a little grocery shopping this evening – which led me to the pic of the day:

That shelf should be filled with Chobani. haha Is Extreme Couponing following me around now and emptying shelves??? There were only 2 or 3 cups left.

C is for Coffee …foamy!

After anxiously ripping open the package that ZonePerfect generously sent my way (and of course, posting about it!), I couldn’t wait to try the bars.

My first impression was that this totally reminded me of a miniature version of those slice and bake cookies – you know the ones with the little designs in them? Holding it in my hand, it truly felt like cookie dough.

Taste: Loved it! – obviously, I had to go for the Peanut Butter one first. It definitely did not disappoint!!  I really look forward to trying the other flavors: Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal Raisin!

Texture: Awesome – they really got the doughy, firm texture spot on. It brought me back to scraping the bowl as a kid……. okay, let’s be honest – I scrape the bowl now.

While these don’t have the shortest ingredient list around, the PB bar was definitely delicious, and it held me over for most of the morning! Win! I’d definitely purchase it myself.

  • C is for Cheese & Fruit on Toast

Sprouted 7-Grain from Ezekiel covered in Laughing Cow Light Swiss and some Raspberry Jam. I went light on the jam this time…not sure if I’d really like it… but so good! Reminded me of when putting cream cheese and jam on bagels.

C is for Chainsaws outside of my window….

Bye, bye tree

C is for Channa Masala with Chobani

Dessert? TBD…but probably…. Chocolate.  :)

P.S. You Look Nice Today

Okay – so it’s no secret that the gym has become my friend; I like going…not only for the exercise, but for the amazing people watching outside the huuuge windows. Though, yes, I am fully aware that they can see me in all my sweaty glory. haha

Seriously…random military marches, small children on leashes…today, a class of high school kids who thought they were waaay too cool for school. It’s just entertaining. haha It certainly makes the time pass quickly!…it can also lead to getting awkward looks when the people around you have no idea why you’re laughing…

Anyone love people watching while working out??

It was absolutely gorgeous out today…a fitting way to say goodbye to summer. Actually, the first few official day of Fall are definitely going to be warmer than the last few of Summer. haha

I started it out with my standard (and easy) iced coffee…neon straw, necessary.

Lara got the day started! I’m seriously obsessed with Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip.

Eggggies – with ketchup, of course.

I think I have a problem…almost at the end of Justin’s CHB. It definitely solves those salty, sweet cravings. ..though I do have Justin’s Honey Almond Butter in the cabinet on deck. haha

Soup leftovers from yesterday!! Added some dry parsley and a dollop of Chobani‘s plain non-fat Greek yogurt. Oh man, it gave it such a luxurious texture. Love.

Dessert…bringin’ back and oldie but a goodie. Microwave browniesss.

I hope you all are absolutely wonderful…more than halfway through the week! Weee!

Minnie&Meals

Hey, hey loves!
How’s everyone doing?? Well, I hope! I’m actually back at my mom’s this weekend to do a little shop-shop-shoppin’ (tax-free, of course)…and while I didn’t get everything I was looking for – I did make some great finds!!

Of course, any good shopping trip is fueled by good eats.

My morning was fueled by Chobani‘s Pomegranate Greek Yog cup! For me, it is just the perfect combo of silky, tangy, sweet and crunchy – plus, it’s just a protein packed start to the day.

So mi madre and I did laps of the mall…I’m sort of a “have a plan before springing into action” kind of gal…when it comes to clothes shopping at least. Eventually we landed in Banana…where I didn’t get anything..but wanted a lot. haha However, we eventually ended up in Gap and Forever 21, and I walked away with lots of tops. :)

My fave:

Back-story: Minnie Mouse was the first Halloween costume that I can really remember wearing – I just love/d her!! If I can find the pictures of me as Minnie…and scan them…you will be witness to 4 year old Jil in all her Minnie Mouse glory. haha

Ohhh – I can’t forget the ever present mall treat – GLORIA JEAN’S…love them. I got my usual ice cap with a shot of hazelnut…however, I forgot to take a pictureeee. Boo.

We finished up our shopping spree with some perusing at Target…where of course – you walk away with tons more than you went in for! (aka…we went in for ice cube trays…and came out with a lot more than just ice trays…haha).

The afternoon consisted of lounging around…and as my mom would say – “appreciating the fact that it is Saturday” – …with popcorn of course.

Dinner was a joint effort – my mom made an awesome turkey salad with cranberries…just a touch of mayo. I contributed sweet tater goodness! :)

Really satisfying…and just homey. :)

I’m gonna wrap it up for now – but there is definitely a lot on my mind in terms of the blog…which I will definitely want all of your input on!! :) Really, truly! So be on the lookout for that! :)
