Totally "Wirth" It

Happy Saturday, lovelies! I hope you are all enjoying your weekends!

First and foremost, I want to let you guys know about the AH-MAY-ZING (yes, so great that I had to spell it wrong) and HUGE giveaway that the lovely Jocelyn is doing over at Jocelyn Eats Fresh! It’s amazing — Chocolate, Luna Bars, Lara Bars….I could go on and on! Check it out for yourself!!

Today’s been pretty sweet as far as Saturday’s go. I woke up to a very dry apartment (my humidifier had run out of H2O over night) so I decided to put caution to the wind…and open my windows. A slight paranoia that the super dry air might be what caused my fire alarm to go off the other day is what spurred it all. haha Miraculously at 7:58am it was 37 degrees out…so I crawled back under my down comforter and enjoyed the warmth AND the fresh air. Amazing.

I got up about an hour later and made myself a hazelnut latte — put a little too much of the hazelnut syrup in it so the sweetness quotient was a liiiitle high, but it was really good. I started a new canister of espress, and I really like this stuff. The grind of this espresso is smoother, and the coffee has a more full-bodied flavor than the last kind I had. Yum.

After lounging around the apartment, I ended up doing my eyebrows. Yep, wax my own…a skill I acquired freshman year of college in order to save $$$…my skillllz have definitely improved over time. haha Needless to say, there have been a few screw ups, but those were long ago and nothing a brow pencil couldn’t fix. haha I’ve had a couple of male roommates in the past FASCINATED with the fact that I can do my own eyebrows. It was funny to watch them cringe. :-D

I scurried to get ready to meet my dad, his wife and my brother for lunch. Today, casual was the name of the game.

I apologize for my streaky mirror.

Lunch destination? The Jacob Wirth Restaurant in the theatre district. I’ve been here quite a few times, and have always had a great meal. It’s been open since 1868, and a theatre district favorite. It’s history is pretty neat. :-)   Plus, their beer selection is out of this world! They also recently filmed a wedding reception scene for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s movie “Knight and Day” there.

We were supposed to meet for lunch at 12:30…I was there at 12:30…nobody else was… *sigh* 15 minutes later my family rolled up.

Lunch was delicious. They have amaaazing (buttery) cornbread…I helped my self to 1.5 pieces. haha I decided to splurge and got their Boursin Mushroom Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. Yummm! I ate half of the burger, the pickle and all of the fries (of course).

It’s creeping up on dinner time for me, and I’m still pretty stuffed (even with two walking-excursions post-meal) so, for right now, dinner might be a snack plate of a pink lady apple (love them) and the verrrry last of my Cinnamon Raisin Swirl.….I’d be sad, but I think I have like 6 months worth of PB&C in my pantry right now. haha

Today I picked up People Magazine’s “Spring Fashions” issue…I am having MAJOR fashion cravings. haha :) I haven’t been shopping for myself in sooo long — I think it’s time for some retail therapy soon!! :)

  • Are there any current trends that you really love??

I do have to say that I’m still obsessed with Ray•Ban Wayfarers…do I own a pair? No. I love them though.

  • Are there any  pieces or accessories that are must haves/obsessions for you?

I am obsessed with sunglasses and handbags. Though, the nice thing about both of those things? They alllllways fit, and sizes don’t change from store to store. ;-) haha

What Blizzard?

Evening beauties!! How are you all doing??

Did the blizzard hit you??

It was supposed to hit here (many schools closed and even my University closed at noon)…but it really hasn’t done much except rain/snow. It is still snowing, and has started to stick a little – but definitely nowhere near the 4-8 or 9 inches that they talked about all this week. Let down! haha

I was hoping for a snow day so I kept waking up (wishful thinking?) – but when it was 6:00am and no e-mail or text had “pinged” on my Blackberry, I knew school was ON. I got myself up a little later than usual (hit the snooze a few times…woopsies), I made myself a ‘leftover latte’ – this one hazelnut and added some cinnamon. Yummy – yummy.

I took the T to school today – just one of those mornings. I’m happy we DID have classes because I got my French quiz back and I did really well on it!! All that internal worry and freaking out for nothin’! haha School closed at noon – so after lab I quickly grabbed myself another coffee from the café (I’m addicted, what can I say) and made the trek home.

Lunch was another salad – this one with tomatoes, feta and spicy peppers. Yum. It hit the spot. I kind of lounged all afternoon and made myself a microwave brownie – putting it in for less time so that it was still sorta liquidy…hehe yummm.

A couples of cheese sticks and some Cinnamon Raisin Swirl also made it into my stomach by mid-afternoon.

Dinner included  sweeeet potato – baked/mashed- avec hot sauce. Nice and comforting.

In other news, today I was thinking about the progress I’ve made on my “New Years Resolutions” – I’ve taken up yoga (I need to work on it being more frequent though), I’m traveling to see my best friend later this year!!,I’ve definitely switched up my eats a bit, OH! and I want to go to Foodbuzz Fest!!

  • Any other Foodbuzz publishers thinking about Foodbuzz ‘10??
  • You guys make any resolutions?? How are they going??

Hope everyone is doing well!! We’re over half-way through the week! Yayyy!

All You Need is Love

Hey hey! How’s everyone doin’?

Today was a low-key, but productive day for me – yay! haha I slept in (a little bit), and managed to be up, caffeinated, and finished with my morning errands by noon. I made an amaaazing cinnamon caramel latte this morning. Yum.Yum.Yum. I did some errands, as well…including a trip to the post office and a trip to Trader Joe’s.

I came away with a bunch of goodies from Trader Joe’s — mixed baby greens, feta, pom seeds, sprouts, broccoli slaw, blueberries, and some tomatoes. I’m on a salad kick (thanks to the cafe) – is it obvious?? haha

Sooo…what do you think I had for lunch? hahaha

Salad! *shock* I made a salad with mixed greens, broccoli slaw, sprouts, feta and pom seeds…all topped with balsamic.

Yum, yum, yummm. I also snuck a spoonful of Cinnamon Raisin Swirl after this sucker. haha

I slaved away at some reading (okay I didn’t slave — women’s history is quite interesting! haha), and then dinner ended up being meatless meatballs, veggie spaghetti sauce and some fresh halved grape tomatoes.

Gooood eats.

Putting food aside for a minute, I found it ironic to stumble across this article in Shape magazine today.

Why you ask? Well, the lovely Jenny just posted a blog today that totally echos this editorial. I think it’s so true…we all criticize ourselves too much! Not just critiques of physical traits but in general! We should love ourselves, flaws and all!! The article solely focuses on what you like about your body…but I think it should just be what you LOVE about yourself. Period. End of sentence.

  • Taking a page from Miss Jenny, what do YOU love about YOURSELF?!?
  • Why do you think it is sometimes so difficult to recognize our own positive attributes, but so easy to tear ourselves down over the tiniest details??

You all are gorrrgeous people — on the inside and the outside!! I love that I get to “hang out” with you ladies every day!! :)

Kink…os

Evening lovelies. How’d everyone’s Tuesday go?? Mine has been pretty busy, considering I didn’t have any classes.

One nice thing…got to sleep in. Miracle. Especially considering they are doing construction in my apartment building right now. I think they might be the quietest, most considerate construction men, everrrrr. I’ve barely heard them…and they definitely did not wake me up. Thumbs up to them. *knock on wood that is stays that way*

Once I was up…decided it was latte time. I broke out my fave little guy:

I made myself a pot of espresso and assembled a latte. Yumm.

So I sipped on that while I got ready for the day. Perhaps the surge of caffeine is what I can blame this picture on:

I honestly...don't.even.know.

Also, welcome to my bathroom. hahaha

I was out and about doing some errands for a while…had to get to Kinkos/FedEx Office (the store says that it’s now FedEx Office, but still has the huge FedEx Kinkos sign on it…). It was seriously gorrrgeous out. Especially considering yesterday, it was awesome. So I faxed my little heart out and almost witnessed a brawl as the two women behind me fought over who was next in line…yah. Calm down peoples.

I also stopped by the grocery store and picked some more DCD…I’m addicted and officially have “stocked’ pb in my apartment. haha I also picked up some lunch….sushiii.

It looks pretty, but it was just alright…doesn’t compare to the sushi at Whole Food’s. There was too much cucumber…it made them almost watery tasting. …needless to say I ate it though.

Still hungry, I noshed on my last twisty string cheese.

Later, I got impatient while waiting for dinner to be ready and had a couple spoons worth of CRS…dangerous.

add.ict.ive.

Dinner though was lovely combo of sweet potato fries (also known as cheetahs to some) and some spicy spinach. Actually..I ate the whole box of spinach…hahahaha.

Ahh, so I’ve got a hugggh jasss amount of work to do tonight…I’ve been doing it all day — and I can at least say that everything I need to do for tomorrow is done — but I sitll have a ton to do for Friday. I had wanted to go to this movie night at my school tonight (which is 1/2 over by now anyway), but I just had too much work to do. They were showing Couples Retreat and I love Vince Vaughn…boo, wish I could have gone.

Oh well. Time for me to work my booty off — for a whole 10 more minutes and then inevitably get sucked into Biggest Loser (or at the very least the last 10 minutes of BL).

I just want to hug Bob. Anyone else? haha

Have a great night loves!!

Fail Whale

Evening everyone! I hope everyone had a great humpday. Mine was long…but it was good. It’ll be interesting to see how this semester goes. :)

First order of business…I want to let all of you guys know about the awesome Dentyne gum giveaway that Jenny @ Peanut Butter & Jenny is doing. SIXTY awesome pieces! You know you wannnaaaa! :)

Now, onto my eats.

I was up bright and early — due to my oh so lovely classes. So early that there wasn’t really natural light to take pictures with…oh well…I sipped on a “leftover latte” (just thought of that and I think I like it) of leftover espresso and milk & whatnot. As I sipped..I tried to get on Twitter…but nope … FAIL WHALE. Really?? That early?? I hoped that it wasn’t an omen for my day to come. haha

Other than an *almost* slip on the way to school — my cat-like reflexes came into play there and saved me…I had a dirty, black paint-chip colored hand from grabbing onto the fence next to me…but other than that I came away unscathed! — my day was anything BUT a fail whale. I’m excited about my new classes (well, the ones I had)…and they should be really interesting. Though my schedule is super hectic…and my bag weighed 19.2lbs today, and that was minus 4 books that I need…(oy, and yes, I weighed it)…I hope this’ll be a good semester.

In between a couple of classes, I hung out at the library with another cup of coffee — wasn’t really hungry — so liquid calories it was!

Once I got home, I whipped up some lunch for myself. I wanted something cold — so I decided to try cold brown rice, parsley, chopped spicy peppers, and some cranberry balsamic dressing. It was pretty good — I’d have it again, except I think I would warm up the rice just a little plump it up…but not get it really hot. The peppers were my fave part.

I lounged for a little (exhausted from lugging 20lbs 4 miles), and was hungry again…so I popped some popcorn.

Crunch.Crunch.Crunch. More lounging ensued as did shoveling a couple of unpictured cheese sticks, and a couple of spoonfuls of Cinnamon Raisin Swirl into my mouth.

For dinner, I warmed up a bowl of split pea soup — with my usual parsley garnish — and I added some red pepper flakes.

I also had a repeat of last night’s spicy sweet potato fries. They look a little crispier on the outside, but they were still nice and sweet on the inside. Nom.

I’m gonna spend the evening relaxing, doing some reading for class and thinking about a logo that I need to create for design… oy.

Hope you all are absolutely wonderful!!
