Bookwormin' it

Hello, hello, loves! I hope your weekend has been a fabulous one!

Today was one of many adventures…both of the literary and culinary variety!

First up – reading!…I make no claims that my tastes are high-brow! haha

Side-note: Did anyone else have SSR time in elementary school (Sustained Silent Reading)??

First up…some necessary magazines.  Fashion + Food!

+

Excited to try out all of these sauce recipes!!

Also – a trip to B&N led to the purchase of two books that I’ve wanted to dive into for quite some time now…

Love Chelsea Handler - I think she’s hilarious, and I’ve been a fan loooong before Chelsea Lately.

I think I have a tendency to lean towards and admire women (authors, celebs, every day peeps etc.) who are funny, smart (even if they don’t use SAT language on a daily basis),  don’t take themselves too seriously, …most have quite the potty mouth, and all are really strong women. Love them. haha

I never said I was reading the classics…. haha

On to food:

First, isn’t this the most gorgeous apple??

Of course, Honeydew was a part of my morning. :)

Lovin’ the fact that these cranberries are sweetened with apple juice! They’re a little more tart, but I’m not missing the tons of added sugar sometimes present in dried fruit!

Also – seeing these Stroopwafels brought back memories of my trip to the Netherlands and visiting my brother… so delicious!

Dinner was a Thai peanut pasta with broccoli. So delicious – light and perfect for a warm summer night.

My most exciting moment of the day though – stumbling upon the NEW LARAS!! Weeee! I have been looking for these everywhere, and I haven’t dug in yet…I feel like I have to save them for something special…like a midnight snack? haha

  • What have been some of your newest food finds?
  • What’s on your summer reading list??

A Series of Random Events

Hey loves – life has taken me away from this again…not in a bad way though. I have been living, and realizing that not every little, tiny (insignificant) thing needs to be posted . Not to say that this post is monumental. haha

Sitting back and looking at the last few months, and how hectic my life has been, I truly begin to see why blogging became sporadic. Also – I’ve been in front of a computer a lot for my job – which is new to me, and so at the end of the day..coming home to sit in front of the computer just isn’t always appealing. That’s not to say I don’t think of blogging or how great a meal would look…but some days it was just a little too much.

My schedule will soon change again – so I’m hoping to fill this blog with wonderful food, things, people, events, and adventures. Plus, maybe a giveaway is in the works … mwahahaha.

Much like my posting schedule – this post is raaaaandom.

1. I tried the new goat’s milk brie from Trader Joe’s – heaven. Brie is quite possibly my favorite cheese (but it’s so hard to choose, I love them all). Cheese is my one dairy must – I could do almond milk, no eggs, etc…but cheese… Cheese is an obsession for me (much like coffee haha…more on that later.)

Ooey Gooey Goodness

2. I tried the apple pie flavor of Lara for the first time…as always, not disappointed! :) I have yet to see their newest flavors on the shelves here in Boston…I want peanut butter chocolate chip so much!!

3. I’ve been obsessed with Trader Joe’s Maple Pecan Clusters Cereal - it rocks my world.

4. “Easy” really has been the name of the game. I’ve eaten far too many premade wraps…though they were surprisingly delicious.

5. I’m reorganizing and redecorating my apartment (my [bank acount's] savior, Christmas Tree Shops!). This is a little taste:

New storage (thank, God!!!)

((Sidenote: Thanks, Mom, for listening to me vent, and helping me with ideas. LOVE YOU!))

6. Finally, la pièce de résistance à la Starbucks:

Months and months ago – I saw Kath using her french press and I’ve wanted one since…recently, it popped into my mind again, and I decided it was time to take the (reasonably priced) plunge.

I have yet to use it, but you can be sure that I’ll let you know how I like it! Plus, it’s pretty right? haha

I hope you all had absolutely fabulous weekends!!! What’s new?? Catch me up! :)

Alarming

Well…it was a good run…. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

…oh! Nooononono, it’s not the blog – but…I set my fire alarm off tonight. haha

If you follow me on Twitter (which you should!) you’d have seen this already – but I had not set my fire alarm off since moving in here…a 10 month run!! Ahh, well, as I said before all good things must come to an end. haha Sure – my fire alarm has gone off before – but only because it was haunted (or dust…I’ll go with haunted ;-) ) not because of any smoke in the air caused by moi.
What caused the alarm to go off? Well…you shall have to wait and see. :)

Let’s start with the morning. I was up early this morning – 5:56 am to be precise…without an alarm (ironic, now). I made myself my usual cup of coffee and camped out in front of the computer to continue work on a project that was due today. However, I may have checked blogs, e-mail, Facebook and Twitter before really settling into my project…

I worked throughout the morning, and then got myself together to go out to lunch with a friend who I hadn’t seen in forever!! We ended up at Stephanie’s on Newbury Street (a perfect day for a meal with a “view). For those of you not familiar with Boston – but familiar with celebrity gossip – I can equate Stephanie’s to one other restaurant - The Ivy in LA. It’s a see and be seen type of place – with an outdoor patio that is always filled.  Stephanie’s was good though – albeit a little expensive.

Unfortunately, I forgot my camera – I know! It’s not far from where I live, but there just wasn’t time to run back to get it. I got the Lump Crab BLT – which came with lump crab meat (it was delicious and sweet) in a tarragon mayo-type sauce, delicious bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato all on toasted whole wheat bread which was so good. It also came with a pickle and potato chips..which I devoured. No shame.

It was a beautiful day and it was great catching up with my friend who I had not seen since the end of March – craziness!

I munched my way throughout the rest of the day and chatted with my best on good ole FB.

Lara x2 - woops - they are just so good

Now…dinner…and here is where the alarm comes into play. Silly olive oil and your smoke point! haha I was making lemon and garlic kale and the oil was too hot and set off the alarm – silliness! It wasn’t even hot enough to burn the garlic so I think my alarm is just sensitive. My alarm-free reign ended over a little olive oil. *sigh* Lame. I was hoping that it’d be an epic event. haha Either way the meal was delicious – I paired it with Jenna‘s baked beans – cold. They are really good cold.

I hope you all are wonderful and enjoying your week!! It’s supposed to get crummy – in the weather department- here over the next few days so I was happy to be able to be out and about and enjoy today.
