Back in the Saddle

Good morning!! I cannot believe its Sunday already AND that I did not really post yet this weekend…*sigh* haha

I hope you all have had a splendid weekend!! My weekend was pretty good, low-key, but good — even with a dentist appointment in there. haha

I’ll kinda do a wrap up of what’s been going on for the past couple of days (which feel like eternity in blog-time, right?)  Friday was a VERY busy day — I trekked all the way to school with ALL of my books (two whole bags worth, joy)…and I put them all in…my LOCKER. YES! A locker…in college. Who woulda thought. haha It feels SO high school, but it’s a life saver. I’m glad my school does it (considering how many kid’s commute its a good idea). I didn’t even have a locker in high school (eons ago)…I think the last time I actually remember using a locker was in 5th and 6th grade…and it might have been plastered with photos of Leo DiCaprio (Titanic, obvssss) and Hansen. hahahahaha

(source)

All joking aside, this locker really will save my ass this semester — or should I say…it’ll save my back.

It was a hectic day which included hopping the train home for my appointment yesterday. While I waited for the train a random middle-aged woman decided to talk to me about how she likes how I do my eyeliner and asked me to instruct her on how to do it…. yah…yayy cities! haha :) I honestly don’t think she was a weirdo…though it was a weird topic of conversation to have with someone you’ve never met or spoken to previously…I think she was just very interested in how I do my eyeliner. ha She continued to talked about galoshes and how she wears them in the garden but doesn’t get how people where them to walk around the city…her thoughts…they’re feet must be cold! My thoughts: I guess you’d rather have cold dry feet than cold wet feet.

Moooving on. Yesterday, I was up bright and early for my dentist appointment (*dread) — it went well actually, my hygienist was so nice (some of the ladies there can be quite mean about flossing deficiencies….haha). I walked away unscathed and happy camper with a new toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and a 2010 planner. haha What? Everyone’s dentist doesn’t hand out planners?? :-p

Breakfast was….A YOGURT MESS! SHOCK! I know it’s been a while. :) Chobani, honey, flax, and sunflower seeds. Nom, Nom, Nom.

In the afternoon, I enjoyed a couple of bowls of popcorn and an apple with PB! Woopwoop! :)

Dinner was baked green (and this time lost of other colors, too) rice. I told my mom that we should use up whatever veggies were gonna go back…so we ended up with the obvious spinach, carrots, onion, eggplant, and tomatoes … I don’t think there was anything else? Maybe? haha Either way…it was freaaaaaking delicious!!! I need to make this at my apartment ASAP.

After dinner, I totally intended on blogging…but I got sucked into the SAG Awards preshow annnnd the SAG Award’s themselves. As a former musical theatre geek…lemme just say…GLEE!!!!!! YAY! haha I’m so happy. Plus, the dress that Lea Michele wore was gorrrg (she was too, obviously)…I especially loved the color.

Anyway — hope you lovelies have had a wonderful weekend…that was mine in nutshell!! :)

Decemburrrr

Seriously, the weather was pleasant for the month of November, but the moment the clock turned and it was officially December…BRRRR! It was 33 degrees this morning when I was walking to class, and right now it’s still only 38. Brrrrr. Ch-ch-chilly!! Luckily, I had a nice warm drink with me from the ‘bucks.

First though, I should start with last night’s dinner. Considering I ate it so late…I don’t know if it should have been considered dinner or a midnight meal! I nuked the last of the baked sweet potatoes that I had. I mashed it up, added some Sabra Chipotle Hummus, and some hot sauce. Yumm.

By the way, I was just looking at Sabra’s site and it says that they have a Cranberry and Fig Hummus?!??! Has anyone tried it????

For something a little sweet, before heading to bed…I believe it was around 12:30am at this point…I had a spoonful of honey peanut butter. :) Always hits the spot. Plus, it makes me chug a lot of water right before bed which makes my bod happ-happ-happy!

This morning, as I mentioned before, the walk to class was pretty brutal. 33 degrees…and it was windy. Rough. haha However, I made my usual stop for my skinny hazelnut latte. (I still have yet to “fix” my espresso maker) At first it tasted funny — too coffee-y for my taste, not enough hazelnut — but I think it was just because it was SO hot. As it cooled it was much more enjoyable..one, because I wasn’t scalding my mouth (always a plus!) and 2. I could taste the hazelnut.

My thumb looks awkward in that photo. haha

Anyway, I had to pick up some paperwork from one of my professors, and then I headed home — which was an equally as chilly walk, and for some reason always feels longer than my walk to school. Once I got home, I made myself a big bowl of yogurt mess: Fage Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt, flax, sunflower seeds and honey. I do have to say, I ran out of the honey that my family friend had harvested, and so I purchased some at the grocery store, and woah is there a difference. His was MUCH better..haha I mean, the honey I use isn’t bad, but it’s hard to go from AMAZING honey, to just plain honey. haha Once I’m done with this batch, I am going to go on the hunt for amazing stuff; it’s too bad the Copley Sq. Farmers market is finished for the season; I should have bought some there while I could!!

The rest of today is busy, busy, busy. I have a paper to write (start) for Thursday, a storyboard to draw for tomorrow…eeeeps, and a meeting tonight for my group project!! I don’t know when I’m going to get in tonight…hence my early post! I’m nervous about tomorrow — presentations…so not my thing. You wouldn’t know that I am absolutely fine singing in a chorus or in a musical in front of a large audience…but talking in front of a small group of people… terrifying!!

Stay warm everyone!! I think I’ll go make myself a cup of tea! :)

Peace, Love & Munchies.

Eat Fresh

Morning all! Well, it’s almost afternoon, now, isn’t it? haha Thankfully the clouds that took up the sky earlier this morning are starting to part, and some sunshine is peaking through — but it’s still waaaay chilly out there!

I stopped by Starbucks and got my morning latte; unfortunately, I think the guy at the register didn’t hear me correctly, and I got a skinny vanilla instead of skinny hazelnut — I told the guy it was no big deal though…one, I didn’t want to be late to class, and two…not that big of a deal to me. However, in hindsight – I wish I had gotten it fixed because I realized (through lacks of sweets in my life) that some things are just “too sweet” for me now. Their sugar free vanilla syrup is one of those things. I drank about half of my drink, but ended up tossing the rest.

Though, not before getting a pic of the glorious red cup. hahahaha

Now some of you may be asking, “Jil, I thought you got an espresso maker. Why are you still buying lattes??” Well, unfortunately, after the first couple of (deliciously successful!) uses the little rubber ring that seals certain parts of my espresso maker — got burned or something. I think I may not have properly cleaned it, . I.E. I didn’t realize the rubber ring came out. The singed rubber makes for some not so tasty espresso (okay, so I never tasted it, but espresso smelled like burned rubber instead of coffee…so I assume it tasted like crap). haha I’m glad I found the source of the smell though – it’s an easy (and cheap) enough fix.  So this weekend I’m going to go find another rubber ring…I assume that I can find them at most hardware stores.

Anywho…so I stopped by DeLuca’s Market on Newbury and picked up some Nonfat Fage greek yogurt and some Naked Green Machine. A healthy part of a complete breakfast. haha I ran out of yogurt yesterday and it was a quick fix, and I also just ran out of Green Goodness. The guy who worked there was so nice; I think I was the only person in the store. If you’ve seen any of the recent pics of Katie Holmes when she was out and about in Boston, you’ve seen DeLuca’s. haha It’s just a tiny little grocery/convenience store, but they do good sandwiches and they carry some pretty stellar specialty items, too. :)

Anyway – BREAKFAST:

I’ve got a busy afternoon ahead of me, but I’m going to get some Subway (Eat Fresh!) for lunch. Yummm Veggie Delight!! haha

TGIF!! Have a great Friday everyone!!

It's gonna be a late one..

Hey all!! I’m posting early today because I know it’s going to be a late one for me. I’ve got classes and then a group meeting, and I have no idea how long the group meeting will go. I’m guessing it’ll be decently long though.

My day has been pretty good so far (seeing as it’s only 11:30 in the morning). I grabbed my morning coffee at the ‘bucks today, and I ran into a friend of mine so we chatted a bit. Unfortunately, no pics of the glorious red cup! haha

I got home and immediately poured myself a glass of Green Goodness and made myself the usual greek yogurt, flax seeds, sunflower seeds and honey.

I cleaned up the apartment a little, opened up the windows (no, it’s not warm out, it’s just the Sahara in my apartment, haha) and relaxed with a little mindless TV. Yup, yup. haha

I made myself an early lunch; I just have so much to do, and well, just simply, I was hungry. haha I had a “salad”  — okay it was spinach and some Laughing Cow with Cranberry Balsamic dressing. I wish I had more raw veggies in my fridge…but alas, nothing. I made due. It is quite yummy. (Currently noshing).

I also made myself a HUGE mug of green tea. Yummm. Can you tell I’m a Sagittarius? haha

Hooray for awesome Christmas Tree Shop purchases (sooo cheap!).

I’m going to relax til about noon, get some stuff done for class, and then pack up everything I need to work on this project. Joooyyy. This weekend will be a busy one in terms of work. I have a ton of end of the semester projects that need to be completed…just not enough time in the day it feels like! Ahh!! :)

Hope everyone is having a fabulous day so far, and that it stays that way!!

Peace, Love & Munchies!

Somethin' to chew on…

Oh my, it’s 8pm already?? Ahh, Wednesdays always fly by. Today has been a good day. Lots of productivity!! :)

Again, the beginning of my day started out shaky — I think I just have been easily dehydrated as of late. Instead of my usual coffee, I decided on getting some tea this morning so that I would be getting some water into my system, instead of milk. I stopped by the local Derne St. Deli and got a tea – to goooo. :) I’ve heard their food is delicious, I’ve just never had it…it sure did smell good in there though. I’ve been hydrating ever since. It really is amazing how much better you function (body and mind) when you are hydrated.

On my way home, I picked up the latest issue of In Style (the one with Reese Witherspoon on the cover) in order to do a little “research” for my advertising class — aka I needed an excuse to look at pretty clothes I can’t afford. I was pleasantly surprised to open up the magazine and see THIS advertisement.

IMG_3176

Oh and so you know — the text says: PHOTOGRAPHER: Captivated -STYLIST: Jealous – MODEL: Flattered, but not surprised

Honestly, I was surprised to see it — especially in a magazine mostly devoted to style, but it made me really happy. Why? Because she is beautiful, and God knows that young women need to see that people…BEAUTIFUL people…come in all different shapes and sizes. I read an article yesterday (which I’ll admit, I found due to a “tweet”) about how 19 out of 20 young women would switch bodies with someone else if they could. I just found that so sad…and believe me — I’ve been there. Heck, there are days when I’m STILL there. There are days when I look at the mirror and say “ICK!” I still struggle with the fact that I am a woman who is 5’10″ (yeh, I’m tall). — My body isn’t where I want it to be, but you know what, that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with it though!! This society (not just in the US, but it’s really almost universal in Western culture now) projects these unattainable, airbrushed images of women…I cannot imagine being a teen girl today. It was hard enough for me 10 years ago (eeps, I was 13 that long ago?? haha).

Here’s a link to that article: 19 of 20 young women ‘would change bodies’

I spent the afternoon perusing the magazine, sipping Green Goodness, enjoying greek yogurt, flax, sunflower seeds and honey, and munching on popcorn and hummus

I love Cedars. It’s somewhat local. I drive by the headquarters on my way to my mom’s house and to my dad’s house, too, actually. haha

After class, I came home and immediately put some sweet potato fries in the oven and made myself some brown rice, salsa, Laughing cow, corn and spinach.

Oh, and last night, I made that concoction of vanilla pudding with some creamy honey peanut butter mixed in. Oh. My. GOODNESS!!! SOOOOO GOOD! That’s my dessert tonight, again. haha Seriously, only about a tablespoon of PB went into the entire batch of pudding — it’s the perfect peanut butter flavor. Yummm.

I hope everyone’s day has been absolutely spectacular! Hump day is almost over!!
