The Summer Wind

Evening!

Today started out grrrray – in fact…who needs alarm clocks when you have thunder storms to wake you up in the morning? haha I was a little sad because my brother and I had planned on heading up to our beach house just for the afternoon…but in gross weather, no thanks. haha

Instead of beaching it up, we settled in with coffee – of course.

Lunch-time came…it was still kind of gray, but the clouds were breaking up…woo! I scarfed down a little wrap before heading out to do some grocery shoppin’.

My bro and I descended on Hannaford (lovelovelove their produce and prices) and went to town.

Grocery goodies

After we got back with groceries…the sun came out!! Glorious, glorious sunshine. It truly felt like summer.

I soaked it up:

My cat was obviously thinking, “Jil…what the…seriously??” She has a point… haha

I hung out on the porch soaking up the sun while my bro decided to doing some yardwork:

For dinner – I decided on some tempeh lettuce wraps. They were a combo of tempeh, peas and BBQ sauce all wrapped up in Boston lettuce. It came out really good. Yumm…though, you can’t really go wrong with BBQ sauce.

It was my mom’s first foray into tempeh and I’m happy to say that she liked it! Yay!! I love when I can get people to try new things!!

  • Is your family as into healthy eating or a certain food lifestyles?

Mine aren’t…not for lack of caring, but it’s just never been the way we’ve done things. We ate well as kids, and there was always a focus on veggies and whatnot but there wasn’t a real organic or whole foods focus.

Because I'm Worth It

Evening everyone!! I hope you all have had a fantastic Saturday! It was absolutely gorgeous today. The city was buzzing. Seriously, if Boston’s weather was like this year-round I’d be a happy, happy camper.

I had a lot to get done today – so I was up early! Really, really early at first – 5:45…but I managed to roll over and get a couple more hours of sleep.

I started the day with coffeeiced. Deliciously chilly.

While I sipped my chilly bev, I enjoyed some epic waffles. Simple – yet so, so good. Waffles topped with sliced strawberries and Maple Grove Farms’ maple syrup. My stomach was so very happy this morning.

I spent the morning cleaning the apartment…it was definitely needed. I packed up some stuff and hit the road to work on a design project.

I brought water, a packet of TrueLime, and a Luna bar with me.

Snack-attack

The TrueLime was really good. I honestly would have thought someone put a wedge of real lime into my water bottle. The flavor was a little subdued due to the fact that I had a full water bottle, but it made drinking the whole thing much more enjoyable.

I enjoyed the walk home. Stopped at both Whole Foods and Starbucks. Happy Jily.

The walk back was gorgeous. Case and point:

Dinner was a wrap, and a really delicious one at that. I combined Trader Joe’s honey roasted turkey, hummus, TJ’s Aioli Garlic Mustard, and herb salad on a TJ’s whole grain tortilla. Nom.Nom.Nom. haha Seriously, this was delicious. I picked up the mustard after seeing it on Naomi’s blog – and she’s right it’s definitely just a mustard and not a “sauce” like they label it but it is really good.

Dessert involves some splurging…Scharffen Berger splurging at that. Why? 1. It’s Scharffen Berger 2. I’m totally worth it haha and 3. Why not?

Scharffen Berger’s Nibby Dark Chocolate with Roasted Cacao Nibs…is… amazing. Period. No more words.

  • How often do you do something for yourself – just because you’re worth it?

Here's the mail – it never fails…

…and yes, for those of you who were wondering…that was totally a Blue’s Clues reference. haha

Anywaaay, growing up a little bit here….

I hope you are all doing wonderfully! It was gorgeous here, in Boston, today!! The sun was in and out of the clouds, but it was warm. Yay!! It’s currently about 70, and I’m soaking it in (windows open as wide as they can be opened) because tomorrow is supposed to rainy and miserable. That will be good for all the work I need to get done though. haha

I started the day off with a coffee – bought – because I was a geeenius and forgot to stock up on a new gallon of milk, and I wasn’t going to test the 4 days past its “use by” date milk at 7am…not the best way to wake up in the morning. haha

I apologize for the dark pic…obviously, it was cloudy/early at that point. haha I was also apparently too lazy to turn on the lights. Oops.

At Starbucks – the barista randomly asked me where I was from after I ordered and he made my drink. When I replied Boston/New Hampshire he got this funny look on his face, and was like “Wow, you sorta sounded like you had a Southern accent, that’s why I asked!” …I simply replied, “Oh really??” and then his said, “And that’s not a bad thing!!” – It was a random exchange, for sure. Especially considering the only time I ever have a hint of Southern accent in my voice is after I’ve spent time with my cousins who grew up in Texas – and now live there and in North Carolina. I think he needs his hearing checked, haha, but I’ll take it as a compliment that I don’t sound like a harsh Notherner. ;-)

Got home after classes…starrrrving. I made myself a hummus, mixed greens/herbs, and honey roasted turkey “wrap”. It didn’t really wrap well. It was goood though.

Also, inhaled some of this deliciousness:

Then…mail time! haha I got some free samples of True Lemon, True Lime and True Orange in the mail today. I have yet to try them, but they look really interesting!

They say, “Treat yourself to the fresh-squeezed taste of citrus, whenever or wherever you’d like! True Lemon, True Lime, and True Orange, the all-natural, original crystallized citrus.”

Each packet contains (from the brochure):

  • 100% all-natural ingredients, including cold-pressed juices and oils for authentic fresh-squeezed citrus taste
  • Zero calories and zero carbs
  • No artificial sweeteners and zero sugars
  • No preservatives, sodium or gluten
  • 25% of your daily Vitamin C requirements

They also make suggestions for where to use these little guys:

  • In 10-20 oz. of water
  • Hot or iced tea
  • Sprinkle on fish or veggies
  • Add to butter for lemon or lime butter
  • Replace lemon juice with True Lemon in recipes
  • Use as a salt substitute
  • Add to popcorn or tortillas
  • Mix with herbs for a delicious rub for beef, pork and chicken
  • Mix in yogurt, cottage cheese or sorbet
  • Add to olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a citrus dressing

Okay, wow – lots of uses…many of which I probably would not have thought of doing. I will probably go the traditional water or hot tea route with these…but who knows! I’m excited to try them.

That’s not all folks…I got something else delivered today….

Big ole box! ...which matches my couch....

The Calphalon pans that I won in Ashley’s giveaway arrived!! (Record-time, might I add!!) I was so excited…I immediately ripped them out of the packaging and got them prepped for a little cooking action.

10 and 12 inches respectively.

They are omelette pans so I thought – what better way to break ‘em in than with some omelette making!? Dinner was an omelette made with egg whites, spinach, hot sauce and a chopped up Sargento Cheddar cheese stick! haha

Perfection.

These pans are amazing! No stickage (oh yes, I make up words) and it was a little crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. YUM.

Okay, wow – this post ended up being long.

I hope you all are amazing – half-way through the week! Woo!

  • What’re your fave omelette fixings??

So Delicious

Evening beauties!! How’s everyone?

Today has been a relaxing day, but a productive one.

I got to sleep in, thankfully, because National Grid did work outside of my building until about 11:30 last night…we actually lost water for about a half-hour or so around 8pm, too. Fun! Of course, I literally had just put a face mask on and was ready to take it of…when, no water! haha Just my luck… :-) Luckily, I had my Brita in the fridge, and soaked a towel with it…very cold, but my face was no longer green! haha

This morning, I was excited to try something new *to me* in my coffee. I ran out of flavored syrups for my coffee, and after much unsuccessful searching, I’ve realized I’m going to have to wait to go to Target sometime aand get it. However, it made me step out of my “comfort zone” with my java.

I have long been a “follower” of So Delicious by Turtle Mountain on Twitter, and so when I saw their Hazelnut Coconut Milk Creamer, I had to try it.

I absolutely loved this!! I used only two tablespoons -just for flavor-, and the rest I kept milk – but the flavors were fantastic, and it actually made the coffee feel a little “lighter.” I will definitely get this again – and now it has me looking into all of their other stuff, too.

I also brought back an old friend: Trader Joe’s Greek Style Nonfat Yogurt! It’s that time of year – warmer weather = cooler foods (for me at least).

I worked my butt off all afternoon making a study guide for an exam tomorrow…I figured, I’m going to be tested on it in the final, too – might as well, make the mother of all study guides.

Lunch was cool, too. A wrap! Love the combo of the mixed greens and herbs, Laughing Cow cheese and the deli-style buffalo chicken breast.

Tonight, dinner was early – and easy. I got out a can of Trader Joe’s Organic Split Pea soup, and warmed it up. Meh…I’ve had this before, and I don’t remember it being as bland as this can was… I got through it, but it had very little flavor (or color for that matter…I apologize for it’s unappealing nature in the photo). Maybe I did something to it last time? or maybe I just need to (wo)man-up and make my own again. haha

Dinner was early tonight because I’m heading to an event at where Vicki Donlan, the CEO and founder of Women’s Business magazine is speaking. The event is called: Her Turn: Why it’s Time for Women to Lead in America” (which is also the title of her book, I believe).  I hope it’s inspiring and informational – I’m sure it will be.

Pre-seminar Sassiness.

Excuse the random stuff around the mirror, and my choice of pout. haha  :)

I hope you all are wonderful!! It’s inching closer to the weekend!!
